Story
This July I'll be running the Canalathon 2022 for the Canal & River Trust. I'm so lucky to have the beautiful Leeds-Liverpool Canal at the end of my street. So I'm aiming to raise money to protect the nation's 200-year-old canals and the wildlife-rich green corridors that they provide. I'm going to run the Leeds-Liverpool Canal from Leeds city centre to the village of Bradley just past my house, a distance of 26.2 miles, and I'm planning do it all in one go (Covid recovery lungs permitting)!
Almost nine million people live less than a mile from one of the Canal & River Trust's waterways, making them popular and accessible places to exercise. In towns and cities, they provide vital blue and green spaces where people can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and clear their heads, making people feel healthier and happier. But looking after these precious spaces is costly and takes many hands. Fundraising through the Canalathon can help nature flourish, protect the heritage of our canals in the face of climate change, and deliver health, happiness and wellbeing to millions of people.
