During September I walked one of the Just Walk stages joining nine hardy souls who are walking the whole way from London to Jerusalem. They set off from London in June and aim to arrive in Jerusalem in November 2017. My part started by the Adriatic in Albania and finished by the Aegean at Thessaloniki having passed through Macedonia on the way - around 280 miles in three weeks.

Just Walk to Jerusalem marks the centenary of the Balfour Declaration and 50 years of military occupation of the Palestinian territories. Amos Trust are asking for full equal rights for everybody who calls the Holy Land home.

As well as joining with Amos Trust in asking all powers in Palestine/Israel to 'change the record', I am fundraising for Huda Kindergarten in the West Bank which serves a remote Bedouin community in the South Hebron Hills at Khashem Al Daraj. The community has a school building but relies on donations to pay the teachers a living wage. The kindergarten started with one room for over thirty children, and has grown to accommodate 40 children who are supervised by a teacher with an assistant and a cleaner. The staff are women from the same community. Their goal is to keep the kindergarten and its unique services going in a community where there is otherwise no provision.

Khashem al Daraj has a population of 650 Palestinian Bedouin living by herding sheep as a main source of income. The basic infrastructure is very weak with a lot of services lacking including inadequate roads, scarce water supply and high unemployment with rising poverty. The Israeli authorities restricted their sustainability further by demolishing seven water cisterns. Moreover, the community is surrounded by an area declared by the Israeli military as a 'Firing Zone' to which access is forbidden.
