Story
Please join me in supporting the work of Canon Collins Trust, which promotes education and social justice in southern Africa. Its mission is to build a network of effective, active leaders and organizations across the region who use knowledge and activism to build a more open and just society. To do this, the Trust funds higher education scholarships for those who are committed to social change, and it supports organizations using the law to protect the rights of some of South Africa's most vulnerable and marginalized people.
Scholarships
Over the past 40 years the Trust has supported more than 4,000 scholars from ten southern African countries. Among them are hundreds of teachers, lawyers, public health specialists, conservationists, engineers, political and business leaders, development workers, and scientists who are now leading change in their communities.
Legal Work
Through their partnership with the Legal Resources Centre, a leading South African public interest law firm, the Trust supports precedent-setting impact litigation on behalf of vulnerable people, promoting their basic rights to shelter, water, and medical services. It also supports Equal Education, a movement of learners, parents, teachers, and community members working for quality and equality in South African education, through activism and litigation.
In the words of Nelson Mandela: "Canon Collins Trust has worked tirelessly to develop southern Africans to be leaders in their fields by providing access to education. It is through this access to education that young people will realize their full potential to build better lives for all."
I look forward to running the London Marathon on April 21, 2024 in support of this important organization.
