Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 4th September I will be joining Jeff Stelling and 399 others to walk 26 miles between four London football stadiums. Starting at Millwall walking to Stamford Bridge home of the European champions CHELSEA. Then moving onto QPRs Loftus Road, finally arriving at White Hart Lane.
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 3 years ago aged 52. I had no signs of anything being wrong but as my dad had developed prostate cancer in his late 60’s, I went along to a walk in blood check held by Guildford Lions and the Prostate project.
Two weeks later I received a red letter informing me my PSA was 22, anything over 2.5 is considered abnormal!
Further tests revealed I had prostate cancer and within 8 weeks my prostate was removed. Unfortunately the cancer had escaped from the prostate. So 32 sessions of radiotherapy followed. For a while it looked like this had “cured” the cancer but my PSA started to rise again. More tests and scans showed the cancer had now moved to my pelvic bone. Fortunately with new research and new medication I have now started hormone therapy to slow the spread of my cancer.
I have been told on numerous occasions by my medical team I am lucky they caught this early.
So if you are a man or you know a man over 50 with or without any symptoms please insist that your GP gives you a PSA blood test. It could save your life.
