Story
As most of you know I have been a board member with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County since 2012. The reason you know this is because I have traditionally asked you for your support of the clubs over these years. Traditionally as an auction table guest; provider of a silent auction item; Live Mas golfer; tee sponsor or many other events and occasions.
One of the visions when I joined the board was to one day bring a B&G Club to Spokane Valley. This has been in the works for several years and is now starting to build momentum. I arrived Spokane Valley in 1967 and have spent most of my life here. It is also the home of Lydig Construction who has been a part of my working career for over 35 years. My wife Paula has spent most of her life in Spokane Valley as well. She is beginning her 24th year with Central Valley School District. Spokane Valley continues to be a big part of our lives and always will be. In 2019 we introduced the Blue Door Bash to kick off our pursuit and raise awareness of this effort. In 2020 we experienced COVID-19 which has been somewhat bittersweet for Blue Door Bash event and our progress for a club in Spokane Valley.
Throughout this year, the Clubs have remained available and open to provide essential services to the kids and families who need us most. From serving free Grab N’ Go meals, hosting Virtual Club Zoom meetings with the kids, providing Working Family Care and Academic Support, and opening an Academic Support location in Spokane valley, the Clubs have been there every step of the way to support our Spokane community.
