Story
In 2011 I completed the gruelling Bolton Iron Man which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 120 mile bike ride and then just a little marathon (26.2 miles) to finish. During the event in 2011 my Dad (David Taylor) was my inspiration to keep going…. However, my biggest supporter and the person who shouted the loudest was my mum (Joan Taylor) she worried about me during the swim, was up early to see me on the bike and then stayed late until I’d finished the run.
At the time I said “never again!” .. but in September 2013 my beautiful mum sadly passed away after a brave fight against cancer. She was such an inspiration to me, managing to run a marathon with a large cancerous tumour inside her at the time… so (perhaps foolishly) I’ve decided to do the Iron Man again. Mum’s ashes are now with my Dad’s on Sheephouse lane so they’ll both be with me on the bike route and in my head I’ll be able to hear her shouting me on all the way round.
I’ve decided to raise money for The Christie in mum’s memory as they gave her remarkable care and support during her fight against the dreadful disease that cancer is. Any money raised will go towards care and treatment for people with cancer (and support for their families) and clinical trials and research to help find a cure. Thank you. Martin.
