 Ten years ago I got involved in establishing a local charity, The Lune Scholarship - its aim was simple - To allow under privileged children the same opportunities as those more fortunate than them. Many children strive hard to win a place at Lancaster Royal Grammar School only to find that once there their parents struggle to find extra cash needed for those essential items, whether it be bus fares, school uniform, or games clothing.   

The Lune Scholarship is there to rectify these problems, and make life a little easier. These children are our future and we should invest in them. It is much harder for a child from an under privileged background to make his way to the top, he will be under peer pressure to fail and join the rest of the gang hanging out on street corners. It takes courage to say 'No'. LRGS has helped many such children achieve their dreams, not only a place at the school but in many cases a university education, maybe even Oxford or Cambridge, and in nearly every case a job they can be proud of, a job if they had followed their peers they would not have today.
