Firstly, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. After many years of enjoying my life and doing the odd thing here and there for charity, 11 years ago I raised some money and gathered some friends together and headed off to Romania, to refit a run down orphanage. The experience has stayed with me since, the highs and the lows of the trip. The faces of the children when they realised that somebody was doing something for them, that would make a difference and also the low of the realisation that what we had achieved, was a drop in the ocean compared to what was needed to be done.
Well guess after an 11 year break it's time to give something back again, a good friend told me about this charity , TRDT and the work they do around the world with children from not as fortunate a background as myself. Having spoken to a number of people and researched them on the Internet, it was clear that the work undertaken by the TRDT not only brought short term enjoyment for those taking part in the events and the schemes they run, but it set the foundations for a long lasting legacy within the local communities it operated within.
I know from personal experience the joy that can be gained from participating in sport, not just myself in my earlier years but more recently in the joy my 10 year old son Morgan gets from playing rugby on a Sunday morning with his local team The Tewkesbury Tigers. He is fortunate enough that he has the boots, the kit and the ball to play with, without having to think about it, the children helped by TRDT don't have that luxury.
Before I bore you senseless I guess I should tell you what I am looking to do and how you can help. The TRDT are running a TAG Rugby event for local children in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India between the 22nd October and the 5th November, I have offered my services to attend and help out wherever possible, strange as it may seem they have said yes. So where do you come in, to enable the TRDT to run the event and to supply both the kit, balls and on-going support in the area after the event has taken place they need to raise funds. This will be the third visit to the area, the previous two setting the foundations in local primary schools, this to build on the previous work undertaken and develop things further.
So if you like the thought of this middle aged, over weight desk potato having the Michael taken out of him by hundreds of school children running him ragged because he cant catch them in a game, he is there to help them learn, you know what to do. Make a donation now, I promise pictures of me exhausted, surrounded by laughing children will be available upon my return.
Please dig deep and thank you in antisipation of your donation and for taking the time to read my page.
