Story
This summer I will be going off a cliff in the name of wildlife!
This won’t be news to anyone: wildlife is in trouble, and the climate emergency is putting extra strain on beleaguered populations all over the world. I’ve wanted to do something to help for ages, and when I saw that the Somerset Wildlife Trust is raising funds to buy an old dairy farm and rewild it, connecting up areas of rich, beautiful nature reserves, I knew that this was a cause for me to support.
Honeygar Farm is a really exciting project https://www.somersetwildlife.org/support-us/donate/honeygarthat promises to restore 45 hectares of intensively managed land into nature-rich marsh, wetlands and relic fen. It will give nature the space that it so desperately needs and lock carbon away for millennia. The SWT has done an amazing job already creating one of the most magical places I’ve ever visited - the Avalon Marshes – which was once a wasteland, that had been intensively dredged for peat. I'm really looking forward to doing something that will support their fantastic work.
I discovered I was really scared of heights whilst doing a children’s treetop walk about 10 years ago. I froze and embarrassingly had kids queueing up behind me whilst I plucked up the courage to walk a plank 10 feet in the air! Thinking about leaning back and walking down over 130 feet of limestone rockface at one of Somerset's cliff-faces or gorges, well, my heart is in my mouth! I’ll be learning to rock climb in preparation for this terrifying prospect – wish me luck :)
I’d be so grateful of any donation, small or large to help me raise money for this amazing charity whilst also (hopefully!) overcoming a lifetime fear! Thank you :) :) :)
