Story

WE DID IT!!!

Update 23 July 2008 - We successfully completed the Longest Golf Day Challenge 2008 for Macmillan Cancer on Monday 14th July 2008.

We tee-ed off at 4.35am and surprisingly all 4 drives where pretty good. unsurprisingly it didn't take long till Marty hit a superb rescue shot straight into the trees on the 2nd!! His 1st ball lost of 12 that he lost on the day!!

We played 3 rounds in a row which seemed a good idea at the time but it turned out to be a bit of a mistake - as we lay on the 14th tee unable to move or speak - we knew that we were in for a very long and gruelling day.  I think the thought of a Burger King and a pint spurred us on to finish the 3rd round at 3.30pm.

After a well earned rest, we set out on our last round at 5.00pm.  For the last 9 holes, we had about 20 family and friends walking with us and giving us great support.  As we turned the corner at the 72nd we were greeted by over 100 spectators cheering from the clubhouse balcony - it was a moment we will never forget.

To cap it off, Michael Malone rolled in a 25 foot swinging birdie putt at the last to rapture applause and he even had the energy to dance round the green celebrating.

A well earned pint was waiting for us as we went into the clubhouse - a job well done for a very worthwhile cause.

A big thank you to all our family, friends, caddies, supporters and sponsors - without any of you this day or amount would not have been acheivable. Thank you.

Shot of the day - Just beating Marty's near air shot on the 8th with a putter on the 1st round was Michael Malones superb birdie putt on the last in front of a packed clubhouse.

Quote of the day - "thats 1 hole done just another 71 to go"

Annoyance of the day - The amount of flies in the air at 5am!!

Hello there!!!  Welcome to the online sponsorship form of TEAM "HAVE WE ENOUGH GOLFBALLS?"

Thanks for taking the time to look at our online sponsorship form!!

Myself, Gareth Colhoun, Michael Malone and Michael McGuire are going to embark on what can only be golfing torture..........playing 72 holes of golf in one single day!!! We are going to do this on Monday 14th July 2008 at Belvoir Park Golf Club.

This may seem utter madness and we are wondering if we have enough golf balls and stamina to get round this epic day but it is for a very worthwhile cause and we look forward to raising as much money for MacMillan Cancer as humanly possible.

So no matter how big or small your donation is, your thought and cash will make a difference.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Many thanks for taking the time to look at this page and please give as much as you can.  We will keep this page updated so you can see how well we are doing and if we achieve our fundraising target.

Update 28 June 2008 - We are overwhelmed by everyones generosity and support to date.  We have acheived our target with 2 weeks to go.  Please continue to sponsor and support us as we want to raise as much as possible for this great charity.  Again many many thanks

Marty, Gareth, Mike and Mike
