Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page. Many of you may not know me personally but know me through game-dev circles. Please take a moment to read this page and donate if you can :)

On October 8th I'll be cycling from Manchester to Blackpool as part of the organised Night Ride. The route is about 50 miles long and sees us departing Manchester after midnight, and arriving in Blackpool in the early hours of the morning (depending on overall speed on the roads I expect about 4am).

As an added challenge I'm seriously trying to work out the logistics of not only cycling Wakefield-Manchester before the ride(45 miles), but also cycling all the way back from Blackpool. The timing of the ride makes this a bit tricky but if I can figure out a solid plan which includes meal stops between stretches I think it should be possible.

If you generous people hit my rather small goal of £200 for BHF, then I guarantee I will cycle the whole way. I'll be using social media to update people along the way and will be posting more about my practice rides over the next month as well as trying to push myself a bit more on my new bike which I've only had for a few weeks!

I'm by no means an accomplished cyclist, but it's something I enjoy and I've always pushed myself while cycling. I cycle the 4.5 miles to work, and the same back every day. I occasionally go out on rides round Yorkshire with colleagues, usually ranging from 50 miles up to around 100 miles max (these are social rides with a meal stop and a few pub stops on the way, not done for speed or distance). I've taken part in charity rides before around the Leeds and Pontefract area and I once cycled from Wakefield to Bridlington which was fun but also tiring.

I'd like to think I'm a lot fitter right now than I have been in recent years. I've lost a bit of weight and since getting my new bike a few weeks ago I've been pushing myself a bit harder, taking alternate routes to work and sometimes going out at lunch for a 10 mile cycle. I'll be updating my page here with my efforts to not only get fitter but also get used to my new bike even more before the Night Ride takes place. It should be fun, and also challenging.

BHF are organising the Manchester to Blackpool Night Ride, so I'm raising funds for them before I take part in the ride. I know heart disease is something so common that almost everyone knows someone that has been affected by it. Please donate if you can, and help push me towards my funding goal. As I mentioned earlier, the more that gets donated the further I will cycle.

Thanks,
Martin
