Story
In less than a month, myself and other 11 volunteers, will be travelling to Dubreka, Republic of Guinea to work alongside the Charity URBOND.
URBOND has been working in Guinea since 2019 to promote and advance child education by promoting primary
schooling and learning resources to children in areas with reduced
opportunities.
The value of their work is measured by its impact on the lives of the children and the people in our
community:
- 2280 Primary school children supported
- 79% Increase in pass rates (from 46%) at CEE
exams for Year 6 pupils since the programme was introduced - 670+ Text books donated to the school library at
Ecole Primaire d'Application de Dubreka
This year our main focus will be:
- Building a toilet facility: URBOND realised that the majority of the girls in
Dubreka, once they hit puberty, they stopped attending school due to the lack
of a clean sanitary facility. To prevent this and increase their attendance this
year we are building a toilet facility for girls with clean running water. We
will also provide sanitary products for young girls and run some educational
and informative workshops with parents and children. - Building a playground: this year we are also working in the construction of a play area where over 700 children will be able to play and exercise safely daily.
