Story
In November 2021 I said goodbye to a good friend, Andy Williams. Andy was the first person I met when I first walked in the door and visited University at St Chads College Durham in 1993 and we remained firm friends from then on. He was our ‘lodger’ for a while in the North East of England when he was starting in his teaching career and when we moved to Northern Ireland he'd frequently come to stay with us and we'd visit the North Coast together. At the end of June 2022 I'll be attempting a 26 mile walk in his memory along that same coastline. I'm not exactly the fittest person in the world so this will definitely be a challenge for me - but I promise to send plenty of training updates as well as live stream portions of the day itself.
Macmillan are a wonderful charity that provide support to cancer patients when they most need it. They've helped a number of my friends and family including my own father. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to the charity. So it's an efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs.
After I complete the event, my employer, GitHub, will also match up to around 10k of any the money I raise on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support meaning your donations will have even more impact.
