Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Cathe, my wife, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in December 2008 and lived with the condition until she passed away in June 2018.
Cathe was a fiercely independent person who lived with Parkinson's with great determination and dignity.
Parkinson's is progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time.
The number of people diagnosed with Parkinson's in the UK is about 145,000. That's around 1 adult in every 350.
There is no cure at present.
People with Parkinson's don't have enough of the chemical dopamine because some of the nerve cells that make it have died.
There are 3 main symptoms - tremor (shaking), slowness of movement and rigidity (muscle stiffness) - but there are many other symptoms too.
Researchers for Parkinson's UK are working hard to develop new and better treatments - and one day a cure.
