Atlantic Coast Challenge (ACC)
This is a three day event running from 7th to the 9th October starting from Padstow and ending at Landsend 78.6 miles, this works out be a marathon a day for three day.
I will be doing this event 4 days after completing the Bournemouth Marathon.
For ACC event I have chosen to raise money for Blind Veteran's UK formally known as St Dunstan's, formed in 1915 to help the service personal who have returned from war with lose of sight. helping over 35,000 service personal to date, no matter when or how long they served Blind Veterans UK will help them.
I knew of one veteran, who Blind Veterans UK helped for 30 years and that was Driver Albert Lawrence for the Royal Army Service Corp, who was unable deploy during WWII due to very poor eye sight ( still doing his part as a driver). I meet Albert when he was in his 90s and although he was very independent he did on regular basic get assistance from Blind Veterans UK then called St Dunstan's.
Never having to ask them for help but always gratefully receiving it Albert was to live on his own almost blind to the outstanding age of 97 thanks to Blind Veterans UK. How did I know this wonderfully man you might ask? Well he was the Grandfather to my wife.
Ok like I have mentioned, I will be doing a marathon a day for three days over the north coast of Cornwell, I will be doing this event in boots and combats carrying around 15 kg. I have served with The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment for over 18 years. So any charity that help our ex service men & women is something close to my heart.
