Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It seemed like a good idea a year ago. The sun was shining and I had just finished the cycle leg of a triathlon relay. In a throwaway line I said I could do all 3 - and have been held to it. I have had my first swimming lesson since I was 7, have come off my bike and injured my leg, but I will be there at Castle Howard lake on 22 July. A 400m swim, 23k ride (no flat) and 4 k run (no flat) awaits.
Just for good measure we are throwing in the Tour of the Yorkshire Wolds 175 miles over 2 days in August and then finishing off with Ride Birmingham - 100 miles or so - in September
Why? Because I can and it gives me the opportunity to raise the profile of Huntington's. It is a degenerative disease with no known cure . Research is ongoing and although progress is being made in dealing with some of the symptoms including involuntary movements, the fact is that a total cure is some way off. Its impact can be devastating as it affects mobility, feeding and communicating. It affects not only the patient but the entire family who have to care and provide. It is also an inherited condition. I have first hand experience as my wife Debbie has the condition.
I am looking to raise funds to help those affected in North Yorkshire whether by way of supporting the Specialist Adviser who plays such an important role for the families or in providing specialist equipment such as chairs, wheelchairs or other specialist equipment
