Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Kirsty and Martin are both running Brighton Marathon on 2nd April 2023. Martin will then be running the London Marathon three weeks later, on 23rd April 2023 - exactly one year to the day since his dad, Dave, died.
Dad was diagnosed with cancer on three separate occasions. The first one was prostate cancer in 2003 and thanks to the treatment he received, he was able to enjoy another 19 years, and welcome his four grandchildren into the world. He had beaten cancer a second time in 2015 before finding out in 2022 that it had returned in multiple locations and finally passing away peacefully on 23 April 2022.
Prostate Cancer UK is also a charity that Dad was very fond of. He would often talk about it and produce one of the charity’s pin badges if he found that someone did not have one.
We had registered to run the 2020 Brighton marathon back in 2019 but had deferred our places due to Covid and the birth of our youngest child, Jasmine. Due to this year’s London Marathon falling on the anniversary of Dad’s death it seemed fitting that Martin should run that event in memory of Dad and that we should also use our existing Brighton Marathon places to fundraise together.
Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men. In the UK each year 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and 12,000 die from the disease - that’s one man dying every 45 minutes.
