The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Alex was diagnosed with a visual impairment in 2021 as a result of contracting Strep-B Bacterial Meningitis and Sepsis at 18 days old. Meningitis left Alex with significant brain damage and, whilst he has defied all expectations, one life-long impact has been the damage to his eyesight. Alex has a multitude of challenges which makes life much harder for him than any other 6-year old, and his visual impairment is just one example of this. Having Chance, his Buddy Dog, from Guide Dogs has made life so much brighter for him.

Guide Dogs has been an amazing support to him and the whole family, with technology and advice. Chance has made a huge difference to the whole family, but especially to Alex who, after initially loving dogs, became very fearful following a dog attack in our local park when he was two. Chance has fixed that!

Alex can’t wait for the chance (forgive the pun) to give something back, by way of a sincere thank you to Guide Dogs.
