[MCL UPDATE 15/07] Simple question, simple answer: yes, you can.
Hello there viewer.
The IronDad Experiment started from a simple question:
"Can you do an Iron-distance triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run, since you ask) without training?"
In my mind, throughout the Experiment, has always been the firm belief that up to 17 hours of physical (and mental) exertion bears no comparison to the endurance of parents with a seriously ill child (I count myself blessed not to have been in this position).
The Sick Children's Trust provides an invaluable service of support and accommodation to the families of sick and hospitalised children, so that when families most need to be close together, they can be.
I’ve tried to raise money regularly for the SCT ever since one of my eldest daughter’s pals was diagnosed with Leukaemia. The SCT provided accommodation to her family so they could support each other during an impossibly hard period.
Last year I came up with the IronDad Experiment, prompted by that simple question. The IronDad motto Disciplina est illis sine filiis ("training is for those without kids", with apologies to the Classics scholars out there) reflects my summary of the SCT – our children really are the most important priority. In my case, no training meant no "tri orphans".
So please try to spare whatever you are able to the Sick Children's Trust - a most simple of concepts, providing such a profound impact on people's lives. If this is not enough to cajole you into donating, then I'd be happy to share the results of the IronDad Experiment as I think it makes a story worth the telling.
