We safe and decent homes for families to build new lives, hopes and opportunities

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my 'Just Giving' page.

From the 14th - 26th August, I will be travelling to Kenya to help the Charity Habitat for Humanity on their ever continuing project of relieving housing poverty worldwide by helping local communities build their own homes.

The costs of the trip include a minimum donation of £350 which directly funds the construction costs of a home. It costs £1,250 to build a home in Kenya. The more money I can raise, the greater a contribution towards the total house costs of £1,250 can be made. In essence, the money you donate will directly fund a home for those in need.

To raise money, myself and two friends will be Cycling from London to Paris on the 19th July. The trip is 403km (250 miles) and will take 5 days in total.

A Home is so much more than four walls and a roof. Would Einstein have challenged the thinking of an entire scientific generation without a home as a solid foundation for life?

Human endeavour is clearly marked by the home in which it began. Our ambitions, dreams and ideas are shaped by where we live.

If you sleep, live and eat in a dilapidated run-down shack, your hopes and plans are limited by a mud floor, rotten walls and a rusting leaky roof.

Equally, a safe, decent home is the best start for new ventures: where no corrupt landlord can extort your savings; where study and education is possible; and where days lost to illness are few.

Access to decent housing liberates people from poverty of the body but also from poverty of the mind. A decent home is often a place of new hope and new industry.

The suggested donation is £10. But whatever you can give is greatly appreciated.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

About the charity

We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.
