Story
Dementia is a horrible disease. It can affect anybody and though it is more commonly associated with old age it can strike at any time. For many years I watched Alzheimer’s slowly destroy my mother, gradually erasing her memories, her abilities and everything that made her who she was. When she died in 2019 I decided to do what I could to ensure that other people don’t have to go through the same thing. Over the next 2 years my father suffered with vascular dementia before he died.
Dementia costs the UK economy more than cancer and heart disease combined, and there are so many things we still do not understand about it. We need research to understand the causes and find treatments
• £20 could fund one hour of vital research.
• £50 could provide access to specialist equipment for studying cells.
• £120 could support complex protein analysis.
• £300 could pay for a genetic test to help identify risk genes.
I will be riding from the Jee Ltd offices in Tonbridge (where I work) to the Jee offices in Aberdeen. It's a total of 600 miles and I'm doing it over just 3 days. I was originally going to do this 2 years ago but Covid intervened. I will be very grateful for anything you can give to support me and ARUK. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
