Some of you may recall that back in early 2020, I challenged myself to run the London Marathon for charity. I chose Barnardo's because it's a fantastic organisation which supports and protects children no matter what they have been through.
As the run was cancelled in London in April 2020, I instead completed it virtually alongside others from all over the world. I aimed to keep the sponsorship trickling into the charity as they, like many people and businesses, have struggled financially during the pandemic.
Fast forward to 3 October 2021. Myself - and around another 47,000 runners - headed to Greenwich for the start of the 40th London Marathon and it certainly didn't disappoint. The crowd support was a truly amazing experience during the entire 26.2 mile route. As we passed our capital's iconic buildings and landmarks, the sheer volume of the crowd kept us all going. Running the final stretch past Buckingham Palace and finishing on The Mall will be an experience I will never forget.
On behalf of Barnardo's and myself, I would like to extend an enormous and heartfelt thank you to everyone for the generosity you have shown over recent months. You have been so kind and charitable, donating in such difficult times. Moreover, you have made a massive difference to the lives of young people.
Finally, for the competitive folks out there, I'm delighted to announce that I achieved my sub-4 hour marathon goal, finishing in 3.55.
