Story
Thomas Jacob Tagg, 04/3/2013 - 23/6/2015
Myself and my wife Lauren will be running the 1/2 marathon Great North Run on September 11th in memory of my nephew & Godson Thomas.
We will also be running the race with Thomas’ Father (my brother Stuart), Kane Green, Matthew Melling & Josh Melling.
Thomas’ story…
Thomas was a beautiful, lively, inquisitive and healthy 2-year-old boy who loved life and did everything with either a huge smile or a mischievous grin on his face.
Thomas loved his big brother and nursery. His Mum & Dad nicknamed him "our little sunshine" because of his happy, fun loving nature.
Thomas developed chickenpox like most children do and was poorly for a few days but seemed to be over the worst of it.
On 23rd June 2015, Thomas suddenly became unresponsive and quickly went into cardiac arrest. Despite an enormous effort, Thomas could not be
saved and passed away that evening. He was just 27 months old.
Tests revealed that Thomas had developed Group A Streptococcal Sepsis.
Chickenpox had weakened his immune system, leaving him unable to fight infection. The speed that Thomas was taken from us was absolutely staggering. If we had known the symptoms of sepsis back then, perhaps
Thomas would still be with us.
We want everyone to know the symptoms of sepsis and have the courage to ask - "Could it be sepsis?
Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis. It raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms. It also funds our vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
