The cause. The Peninsula Medical School in the South West has collected together some of the worlds finest talent devoted to providing practical research and treatments to aid those with Diabetes. A new Translational Medical Research Centre will bring these talented folk together and speed the time from research to treatment. Diabetes is an increasingly common conditions and the benefits this world class team have already brought to thousands of families is special and can be more so.
Why does this matter to me? My son has had Type 1 diabetes since he was 1: and whilst he is a hulking great brute of 17 now doing normal 17 year old things (you dont want to know), it hasn't been altogether easy or fun for him or us. So keen to spare others where possible.
The challenge: as anyone can guess by looking at me, I am not the running, sailing, or dressing up type of guy. But I do have illusions, generated by a mid-life crisis, of being a singer/songwriter. So I will commit to producing at least 30 minutes of new songs by Christmas - all originals - and all instruments and warbling will be by me alone. Boy, will it be awful.
