Story
We have signed up to hike 50km in the hilly Peak District in just one day. This is a very tough loop with steep ascents (1400m) and descents taking us into the heart of this beautiful landscape.
Our mission is to raise as much money as we possibly can do for The Children's Trust. Their mission is to give children with brain injury the opportunity to live the best life possible by providing rehabilitation and support.
In the UK, 40,000 children get brain injury each year. That's one every 15 minutes. The trust delivers rehabilitation, education, and community services through skilled teams who work with children, young people, and their families. They require our help to continue their outstanding work.
Charities need our assistance more than ever as there have been large amounts of fundraising income lost due to the coronavirus pandemic.
We had signed up to walk the Isle of Wight 2020, which unfortunately couldn't go ahead. Thank you if you sponsored us for that; the fundraising has transferred to this event. If you can afford to support us again, the charity will appreciate it, as will we.
We are a team of mixed walking abilities and experience - some have taken part in walking challenges such as Derek's monumentous trek to Everest base camp in 2016. Others have successfully made it back from a country walk to a pub after lunch and a few pints.
The Peak District challenge is the first group walking event we have embarked upon together, and it's bound to be filled with entertaining moments, which we will be happy to share with you all.
Fundraising during lockdown has its own unique challenges, so we have been thinking of ways to fundraise safely in these circumstances.
Jana has pledged to wear fancy dress for a whole week each month to raise awareness in the lead up to the event. So far we seen her as a chicken, a unicorn and the cookie monster!
We will also be doing a charity raffle, rehoming things we no longer need via our charity eBay shop, bake sales, and more - stay tuned.
Thank you,
Team #MartekMarches2021
