Story
tldr; I'm going out of my comfort zone to raise funds for women and girls victims of war, abuse and violence, can you help?
Dear reader, friends, family,
I will be joining a self-funded expedition to Kyrgyzstan with a team of 12 amazing women from around the world. We will trek 150km on foot in just eight days across mountainous landscapes, between 2,500 and 4,000 metres high, with the objective to raise $100,000 USD for women survivors of war in Afghanistan and Syria via Women for Women International – UK, an organisation that works with some of the most marginalised women in the world helping them to transform their lives. How? By providing women with the tools and resources to build a sustainable future for themselves and their families.
Around the world, more countries are experiencing some form of violent conflict than at any other time in the last 30 years, and women suffer the most in a conflict. They are forced to flee their homes to escape violence and routinely face the threat of sexual violence in the form of rape, forced marriage and sexual slavery. Increasingly, women and girls are targeted by the use of sexual violence as a tactic of war.
Some of the Programs:
- Stronger Women, Stronger Nations: Offering training and financial means to women to break the isolation of war, conflict, and gender discrimination to realize their own power. As they form connections in class, women learn to save, build businesses, understand their rights, improve their health, and change societal rules. They pass this knowledge on to their families and communities — creating a ripple effect for generations.
- Conflict Response Fund: Through a non-partisan approach and responsive grants, Women for Women International is able to track crises in real time, identify credible partners on the ground and allocate resources to meet the needs of women survivors, no matter what side of a conflict they are on.
Your support
Please help us reach our fundraising objective of 100,000 USD to help these women move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency.
What your money could buy:
£29 could pay for five chickens for a programme participant so she can use the eggs for food and sell extra eggs to generate income and invest in more chickens.£46 could pay for a tailoring toolkit for a woman who has been trained in the tailoring track, providing her with the equipment needed to set up a business and provide an income for her family.
£156 could pay for Men’s Engagement training, creating a space for men to explore gender roles and toxic masculinity and understand how families and communities benefit when women are empowered.
£254 could pay for Social Empowerment training, where women learn about their rights on key issues like voting, access to land, divorce, custody of her children and domestic abuse.
£520 could pay for ten agriculture toolkits, providing women with the tools and equipment needed to grow agricultural products for food or to generate income.
£1,000 could provide critical psychosocial support to ten women who have experienced unimaginable physical, emotional, and sexual violence.
