Story
As some of you may know one of our children
was diagnosed with a Wilm’s Tumour, Stage 4 (kidney cancer) in March 2020. She
is now all clear and enjoying being a Butterfly at Marmalade Caterpillar,
having been cared for fantastically at our local hospital St.Georges, Tooting.
Their care is world class but as we know from experience, their paediatric
facilities are very poor having been designed 50 years ago.
The Hospital Charity have just launched their
most ambitious Appeal yet, to raise £5M by 2024. They aim to increase
their Paediatric Intensive Care bed capacity by a third, creating a minimum of
16 fully-operational intensive care beds. Alongside, they will create space and
privacy for families and carers. This wlll include a dedicated ventilation unit
on the children’s ward – a far more suitable spot for patients who need
long-term ventilation. Funds raised will overhaul all three of the
children’s wards so that every patient and carer who steps through their doors
feels welcomed, safe and inspired in a centre of paediatric excellence. They
will fund dedicated family spaces so that they can give parents and loved ones
the very best chance of staying well and rested.’
