Break the Cycle - London to Paris · 15 July 2015

When life gets tough or it feels like there's nowhere to turn, Barnardo's is here. We make sure children and young people feel safer, happier and more hopeful by directly supporting them with specialist services across the UK. We have been changing childhoods and changing lives for over 150 years.

Story

The Trip

Father and son Andy and Jasper are cycling from London to Paris in July in aid of Barnardo's. The duo, with a combined age of 75, are attempting to carry out the ride in 4 days. The route takes them from London to Dover, Calais south towards Abbeville, Abbeville to Beauvais and finally Beauvais to Paris. Covering a total distance of just over 300 miles.

The Idiots

Andy (53) and Jasper (22) are father and son, having spent the last 25 years in Oxfordshire, with Jasper leaving the nest last summer to pursue an exciting career in Bath. Andy is a trained classical guitarist having attended the Royal Academy of Music, and now runs a successful Property Developing business with his wife Helma. His past-times include performing, growing moustaches and getting stitches. Jasper graduated in the summer of 2014 and currently works for a cyber security consultancy in Bath. In his spare time he enjoys playing hockey, buying books he'll never read and trying to make new friends.

The Charity

Barnardo's is the largest children's charity in the UK, having been established in 1866 by Thomas Barnardo. Every year it works to transform the lives of vulnerable children and young people regardless of their circumstances, gender, race, disability or behaviour. They believe in the abused, the most vulnerable, the forgotten and the neglected. They, like Andy and Jasper, are aiming to "Break the Cycle" of abuse in the UK. Please find more information at http://www.barnardos.org.uk/

The two of them have both taken massive steps out of their comfort zones in order to take on this challenge (one of them in particular!), and would both be enormously grateful for any support given to a more than worthy cause.
