Story

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital
Stanmore

During the First World War, the hospital became an emergency hospital for the military and in early 1918 also housed discharged disabled soldiers. King George V and Queen Mary visited the hospital on two occasions.

This is the finest orthopaedic hospital in the whole of Great Britain and people come from far and wide for treatments and operations. They have treated royalty and and celebrities alike.

Princess Eugenie is now the patron of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) Charity. She had Scoliosis surgery at the RNOH.

I was recently a patient at the hospital and had major back surgery and the the HDU ward was second to none, I received the most wonderful treatment by some of the finest dedicated doctors and nurses.

After that I stayed in the private ward where the treatment was also absolutely wonderful.

That is why I'm asking to donate some money to the hospital for a vital piece of equipment, which is needed in the paediatric physiotherapy department of the hospital,

The Unicam TPS 3 Bike, with its award winning design, has been
developed to help patients overcome
these difficulties; it can be used for three different functions – mobilising lower limb joints, lower limb strengthening and cardiovascular training.

While it has specialist function, it can also be used as a normal bike for those patients who do not have a lower limb deformity. By enabling these young patients to access cycling early within their rehab can help them to find new hobbies and activities which they enjoy and in turn increase their engagement and compliance with physiotherapy services. Also this can allow the children to engage in what they see as a ‘normal’ activity which their friends are doing, even while they have altered lower limb biomechanics and functional abilities.

In the paediatric physiotherapy department, where they specialise in sarcoma and lower limb deformity rehabilitation.

As a result of surgery, many of these children often have decreased movement in their hip, knee and ankle joints, alongside muscle
weakness and altered walking patterns, with a reliance on walking aids; this means that generic exercise bikes and other rehabilitation techniques are not accessible or appropriate I
this to enable them to continue their good work.

I would be grateful if you could please donate whatever you can for this vital piece of equipment.

Thank you

Marlene.
