Story
Hi There and thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
The 2008 Flora London Marathon will be my first marathon after many years of trying to enter !
After getting over the initial shock of being accepted, my thoughts turned to running for a charity and there could be only one choice - the PSP Association. You can find them at www.pspeur.org
PSP, or Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, is a devastating degenerative disease involving the death of selected neurons (nerve cells) in the brain. There is no known cure. Over a period of time, usually some years, this can affect progressively balance, mobility, vision, speech and, most distressingly, the ability to swallow. There can also be other symptoms, as PSP is a very individual disease.
When British born actor and musician Dudley Moore lost his courageous battle against PSP in March 2002, many thousands of people worldwide became more aware of this little known but devastating disease. In 2005 the mother of Olympic athlete Sebastian Coe died from PSP and more recently, the disease claimed the life of the well-known newspaper columnist Nigel Dempster. Leading neurologists consider that there could be as many as 10,000 cases of PSP in the UK today.
My Mum passed away in 2005 after a brave battle with PSP for 7 years. Motivation is not a problem - I will finish the 2008 Flora London Marathon, for mum.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The PSP Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please dig deep and sponsor me now !
Many thanks for your support.
