Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I was once again on a mission, cycling from Scotland to Germany, as I did in the middle of December with a singlespeed bike. As I was running a bit out of time, I took my road bike this time, with all belogings stuffed in a saddle bag. The goal was to cycle more than 1300km in only 6 days, passing through Newcastle, Amsterdam, Lingen, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin, Leipzig and finally Erfurt. I have always cycled for the love of cycling, and will continue to do so, frankly that’s the drive behind all trips I do. However, while you are travelling with me on armchairs, sofas and office chairs, you can do a wee bit to make this world a better place.

 

I would like to raise funds for Re-cycle and BEN Namibia, which runs a network of independent, community based bike shops that are supported by local grass roots organisations. BEN Namibia provides a shipping container, an initial stock of bicycles and spare parts, tools and training in mechanics and business skills to groups of local people at each shop. They run it as a business, paying wages, resupplying bicycles and spare parts and supporting other community projects from their own income.

 

25 of these shops are established, and they aim to set up another 5 in Namibia in 2011. The established shops require very little support, and over the next two years the charity aims to make the network completely independent of BEN Namibia.

 

Your support, however large or small, would mean a lot, as funding new projects is a continual challenge. I have raised 180 Euros with cycling to Germany in Winter, and I would like to raise more with the current trip, cycling in 6 days from Edinburgh to the middle of Germany again. Willkommen bei meiner Seite von JustGiving, mit der ich Spenden für BENN (Bicycle Empowerment Network Namibia) und Re~Cycle sammele. Nachdem ich im Winter 1350km von Schottland nach Schwobfeld geradelt bin, sammele ich mit meiner aktuellen extremen Radtour wieder Spenden mit dieser Seite. Ich bin mittlerweile in 6 Tagen 1400km durch Schottland, England, Holland und Deutschland geradelt, von Edinburgh nach Erfurt und weiter nach Ilmenau. Das sind mehr als 230km pro Tag auf dem Sattel, und das ganze bei allen Wetterbedingungen, Regen, Sonne, Wind. Die beiden Organisationen für die ich sammele haben es sich als Ziel gesetzt, in Afrika ein Netzwerk mit unabhängigen Radläden aufzubauen. Dort werde gebrauchte Räder wieder fit gemacht von Menschen, die damit ihr Einkommen verdienen und diese dann zu fairen Preisen weiterverkaufen. Um dieses Netzwek aufzubauen, werden dringend Spenden benötigt und ich würde mich freuen, wenn sie etwas Geld für diesen guten Zweck übrig haben. Die Spenden kommen direkt den Organisationen zu.
