Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On November 17th 2015 our brave little boy Harry Tomas Russell died aged 3 at Keech Hospice. Keech played a huge role in supporting Harry & our family during his short life. Like many charities at this time - the pandemic has hit them hard so we thought we’d try and help raise some much needed funds and awareness for a truly remarkable charity based here in Bedfordshire.
During the summer of 2016 I purchased a road bike, at first purely to do some low impact fitness…. I quickly realised the well-being benefits to being out in the fresh air riding a bike (& talking lots). I soon found a cycling buddy in Simon and since 2016 we’ve ridden over 15,000 miles together. There have been some pretty dark times since Harry left us to be with his sister Freya Lily, but cycling has been a real saviour. There have been some tough times on the bike too, but Simon has been there every mile sharing a joke, offering a shoulder to cry on, fixing mechanicals, and providing a google maps type instinct for directions!!
So to our Solstice 250 challenge …. Last year we did a 200 mile in a day ride so thought if we timed it around the summer solstice we have a fighting chance of riding 250 miles in a day. The East coast holds a special place in both our hearts so it feel’s good to take on this challenge in memory of Harry for Keech. Our planned route will see us riding for over 18hrs with more than 6,000 ft of elevation, burning 10,000+ calories and taking us beyond 250 miles.
If you are able to support us, Simon & I would be hugely grateful. Whatever we collectively raise will mean so much to so many children & families supported by Keech. If you are unable to sponsor you can still help us by sharing the event with friends, family & on your socials. And finally huge thanks to Flamme Rouge Bedford, Pactimo and Hansgrohe for kindly supporting this event.
Peace, Thanks & BigLove
Mark & Simon
