We're swimming 10k for Mace's Blue Light Appel · 16 July 2017

Mace’s Blue Light Appeal has been launched with £100,000 from Mace Ltd. The aim is to double this amount & we're encouraging the construction industry to make a donation to this worthy cause.

Story

Recently the Mace Foundation launched Mace's Blue Light Appeal where we pledged to raise £200k for Mind's Blue Light Programme.

To help us reach our target, I and four friends from Barnet Copthall Swimming Club are taking on a mammoth swimming challenge.  On 16th July, between us, every 90 seconds, we will be swimming 100m and we will be doing this 100 times - that's 10k in 2.5 hours!

We are supporting Mace's Blue Light Appeal because:

Over the last few weeks the UK has seen some of the most tragic events in recent memory.  From the bombing of the Manchester Arena, the London Bridge attack, the horrendous fire at Grenfell Tower to the most recent attack in Finsbury Park.

At each of these awful events, it was the emergency services that ran towards danger and saved lives.  Most of us will never know or fully appreciate the terrible scenes they saw, and the memories they will have to live with.  Sadly, this means that many will require mental health support for years to come.

They are heroes.  They help protect us.  And now it's our turn to step up and help them.
