The Epilepsy Research Institute’s mission is to radically advance research for the #Onein100 people living with epilepsy. A life free from epilepsy is possible. But only through research We need energetic, adventurous and creative people like you to help us raise vital funds for epilepsy research!

Story

I have decided to run the Edinburgh marathon this year, and as in the previous three years I am running for the Epilepsy Research UK, for a cause that mean a lot to me.

Harry is a very happy and healthy 8 year old, but in 2005 he started to collapse for no apparent reason, at first it was thought he was having "normal" childhood feberal convulsions, however as the frequency and severity of these collapses increased further tests diagnosed Epilepsy. Our worst fears were realised as Fiona has had live through her father having Epilepsy for over 30 years. However Harry's type of Epilepsy has now been diagnosed (Atonic) and he has been treated successfully for over 2 now and we have had no more recurrences. Hopefully he will grow out of his Epilepsy, but he may well have to be on medication for some time maybe indefinitely. However both Harry and his Grandfather are very well, and we have no reason to think that Epilepsy will come back to haunt us.

However the experience has motivated me to try and repay in some way the support we have had in diagnosing Harry's Epilepsy, and I have decided to try and lug my body around the streets of Edinburgh on the 31st of May again.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Epilepsy Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thanks for you support
