I’m sure we all know somebody who’s been affected by cancer as currently 1 in 3 people are diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime, so it’s is a disease which affects nearly all families.  It’s a scary fact that in 20 years’ time, there will be twice as many people living with cancer in the UK as there are now, that’s 4 million by 2030. 

 

Velindre Cancer Centre is the largest non–surgical cancer hospital in Wales and the 6 largest in the UK, providing Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy and other specialised anti–cancer treatments.  On average Velindre provides care, treatment and support for over 130,000 out patients and day cases each year, and this figure is increasing each year. 

 

Velindre launched their Victory Over Cancer Campaign to try and raise more funds to ensure the best possible treatment, care and support is given to patients and their families.

 

I'm doing my bit this September with the East Coast Bike Ride in the USA, which will see me riding from Boston to New York, cycling around 50-90miles per day over 5 days with the longest days around 10hrs in the saddle!

The cycling will be very tough and challenging with many hills and undulations.  However tough these challenges will be for me, it’s nothing to compare to what a cancer patient or their families goes through so it’s the least I can do.

 

Already more people are surviving cancer because of early detection and better treatments, made possible by money raised by the millions of fundraisers out there.  So please help me achieve my goal and help Velindre achieve theirs...Victory Over Cancer!
