Story
On April 16th myself, my brother & sister are running another marathon – this time unfortunately not with our Pop…
Many of our friends & colleagues know the journey our family have been on over the last few years.
In January 2019, our Dad was diagnosed late with stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Following 8 courses of chemotherapy there was no curative response on the horizon. We were however overjoyed that he was considered for CAR-T cell therapy at The Christie Hospital. In Autumn 2019, he was the 9th patient to undergo such treatment.
For a time, we came out of the woods and Pop was Lymphoma free.
Unfortunately, complications arose along the road, and Pop was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in May 2022. To shoot for a curative outcome, he opted for a STEM Cell transplant last Autumn. Whilst the procedure was successful, additional complications arose leading to difficulties kick-starting his immune system.
Sadly our Pop & best friend passed away in February 2023.
When well enough, he was always very keen to pick up his hobby of running with friends & family. Over the last couple of years, together we have run 3 marathons & with the help of generous donors, raised just over £25k for both The Christie & Lymphoma UK.
Through-out all his treatment, he was so very positive & we as a family, feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity of spending an additional 4 years journeying & running together.
Dad was acutely aware that ‘we are standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us’ … when he was able, he was so very keen to raise awareness and funds to give back what was so freely given to us.
With this in mind we are running in his positive & life affirming memory - to raise spondoolies for The Palatine Ward at The Christie.
Please do give what you can to support this fantastic cause – they really do add years to lives!
