Derby Macmillan
Information Centre – Making Cancer Journeys Better.
Cancer turns lives upside down for our patients and those that are important to them.
As a team our aim is to come alongside those affected by cancer knowing that the journey, they experience is always unique. We facilitate patients and others to find the resources and strength to face cancer.
Cancer research demonstrates that the ENVIRONMENT has a significant impact. At the Derby Macmillan Information Centre, we wish to IMPROVE ours.
OUR VISION is to:
- Ensure the centre is welcoming, safe and patient centred.
- Spaces are flexible with design elements that consider well-being.
- Offer privacy dignity and hope to all.
WHAT OUR PATIENTS & SIGNIFICANT OTHERS TELL US
- Artwork should be calming tactile and positive.
- Surroundings that reflect nature are important, this includes scenes of nature/ living plants.
- Places to sit and relax should be comfortable. Places
that are bright colourful and different from a clinical hospital environment help us to relax. These places should give a feeling of warmth to ‘just be’ (single seating) but also allowing the closeness of comfort (settee seating). Lighting should be flexible to suit differing moods. - Music should be available that sooths and uplifts.
- Access to tea and coffee making facilities make us feel welcome.
- At times we need privacy but at other companionship.
We have a space and a vision HOWEVER we need your help to achieve improve our environment. Each donation makes a difference a chair, a plant, a settee, a picture, a drink, a song …..
Thank you for being part of making Cancer Journeys better.
