Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This week, on Wednesday and Thursday (8th and 9th August), I completed two marathon length walks within two days. The Clarendon Way from Winchester to Salisbury and The Test Way from St Mary Bourne to Romsey.
Yes, they both offered stunning scenery but, more than that, they offered the chance for me to raise much needed funds for the Samaritans in Winchester.
Samaritans is a hugely respected charity aimed at providing emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide anywhere throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. Its volunteers in Winchester respond to anyone across the country, mainly through the use of Samaritans' confidential, generic telephone helpline. However, the charity’s funding is extremely tight and fundraising is very challenging.
As you may know, my wife, Hilary, is a Samaritan volunteer and trainer.
Moreover, Richard, my very best friend from primary school days, took his life three months ago in his 60th year, leaving a widow and four children. His tragic loss has been deeply felt by me.
It is in that context that I decided, spontaneously last week, to help support this amazing charity by completing both walks within 48 hours.
The total mileage was 52 miles.
Thank you so much to all of you who have already made a pledge. I am so appreciative. As you will see on your right here, more than a hundred have been made.
However, if you haven't made a pledge yet, may I ask please: would you be willing to sponsor me for this excellent cause, either by a figure per mile (the distance of 52 miles) or by a total amount or your choice?
I would be so grateful for your support.
