Story
The Mark Bickerton Memorial Award has been created following the sudden unexpected death of Mark Bickerton (23 May 1963 - 18 November 2013) Director of the International Office at London Metropolitan University.
Mark worked at the university for over 25 years and was passionate about education. Originally beginning his career at the University of North London, he inspired many to be their finest. His passion for education was such that he identified scholarships to enable brilliant international students to attend the university on full scholarships.
Mark’s gift was his ability to build relationships with people from all over the world. His likable personality drew people to him and he was then able to inspire, mentor and support students through their academic journey and to help them achieve. He stayed in touch with many people and they stayed in touch with him even after their graduation. Mark became friends with their families who in turn loved him equally as much as we all did.
He will be sadly missed on so many levels. In order that his name lives on, Mark’s family and London Metropolitan University has chosen to create a memorial award in his name. ‘The Mark Bickerton Memorial Award.’ The recipients of the award will be international students who wish to study a postgraduate degree. Applicants must meet all criteria.
You can help make a difference to a student as Mark so often did, by supporting Mark’s memorial award.
