In Loving Memory of
David Rodgers
1929 - 2013
Due to Covid-19 we have had to postpone these challenges until 2021. We tried everything we could to delay and get them completed this year but unfortunately due to restrictions and Chris's partner due to give birth in August we have had no choice.
My Grandad was nothing less than the finest man I have ever had the pleasure to know. He was a kind, caring and a very family orientated man. He was married to my Nan for 61 years (deserved a medal) was Father to three and Grandfather to seven. As a business owner he looked after all who worked for him, and as a proud Freemason he did a lot of work raising funds for local and national charities. He was also on the committee of the Variety Club and helped improve the lives of many sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.
In 2005 he lost the function in both his kidneys and he received an amazing amount of support from the QE hospital and in particular the Renal and Dialysis units. With their help they gave my family and me another 8 years with my Grandad, offering continued care and treatment. He died there on Christmas Eve 2013 with all his family around his bed and the support from all the staff was fantastic. We even had carol singers! I will always be eternally grateful. Time spent with the people you love is so very precious. I would like to be able to support them in the hope it helps give others the chance to have more precious time with their loved ones and receive the same outstanding care.
So in the summer of 2021 Chris Roberts & myself will be attempting the 3 separate ‘3 Peak Challenges’ in the UK, in 3 weeks:
- Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside & Ingleborough in under 12 Hours, 24 Mile, 1585m (5200ft) ascent on 22nd May 2021
- Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge Snowdon, Cadair Idris & Pen Y Fan in under 24 Hours, 17 mile, 2334m (7657ft) ascent on 28th/29th May 2021
- National 3 Peaks Challenge. The three biggest peaks in each country in under 24 hours. Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) & Snowdon (Wales). 23 miles, 3064m (10,052ft) ascent and 462 miles of driving on 5th/6th June 2021
We are self funding the trips so every penny raised will go to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity. Please give generously!
Thank you for reading! Wish us luck!
