Northern Sumatra’s rainforests are irreplaceable. They are some of the most important forests on the planet, home to rare Tapanuli & Sumatran orangutans and other precious species. Supporting thousands of forest-edge communities, these ecosystems are key in the global fight against climate change.

Story

I am once undertaking the huge task of running/crawling the London Marathon on October 2nd 2022. The words actually leaving my mouth saying this sends shudders through my body after I vowing never to run again unless it was to the chippy.... But here I am again, my pain and hatred for running compares nothing to the habitat loss and destruction these truly wonderful animals have to deal with daily. So here I am trying again to make a difference, my love of a challenge and my complete stupidity are the only thing guiding me.

Sumatran orangutans are critically endangered, with only around 14,600 left in the wild. Indonesia has the highest rate of forest destruction in the world.SOS protects orangutans, their forest and their future by:• supporting local people to improve their income at the same time as protecting the rainforest • rescuing orangutans and resolving conflicts between villages and orangutans • campaigning on issues threatening the survival of orangutans in the wild.• restoring damaged orangutan habitat through tree planting programmes
