Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
On Sunday April 23rd I'll be running the London Marathon for Coeliac UK, a disease that our daughter Alice was diagnosed with in August 2015.
Coeliac Disease is a lifelong autoimmune condition where the body's immune system reacts to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. The body's reaction to gluten causes damage to the lining of the intestine causing issues with the absorption of essential nutrients. Left undiagnosed this can lead to a wide range of symptoms some related to damage in the gut and others related to the body being starved of essential nutrients.
Whilst it's a condition that affects only 1% of the UK population only 25% of those with the condition have been diagnosed.
People with the disease are also more likely to have other auto immune conditions including Type 1 diabetes and auto immune thyroid disease.
The help which Coeliac UK have provided has been fantastic, including the support of the GuTs (Gluten Free Under Thirties) network.
As for my training plan, it's broadly gone to plan give or take a time out for bronchitis over Xmas and a few slippery and snowy weeks in Jan. Anyway I'll be aiming for a time of under 3hrs 45 mins, fingers crossed and with a following wind!
Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.
