Story

In 2023, I will be running the TCS London Marathon to raise vital funds for Disability Challengers, a charity that is very close to my heart. My son Jack has benefited hugely from the opportunities that Challengers have given to him with such care and devotion for nearly 12 years. I know that in the current cost of living crisis, asking people whose finances are already stretched to donate money is a tough sell; but that is precisely why charities like Challengers need your support right now. Despite everything, I recognise how fortunate our family are to be able to keep supporting Jack to attend their youth schemes; but so many families are less fortunate than us. Every single donation you make will enable disabled children from ALL walks of life to keep benefitting from this vital social and support outlet.

Those of you that have followed my running journey over the last few years might think this is just another race for me, but I’ve actually only run a road marathon once, in London in 2018. On a blisteringly hot day it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done; despite a largely successful training block, I had to walk large sections of it having made early pacing mistakes, and on crossing the finish line I swore never again. But 5 years later I feel like I have unfinished business with the distance, and am now relishing the daunting challenge of trying to get it right this time. I’m not fussed about a time, but I’m determined to give myself every opportunity to actually run the whole thing! I’m already well into the training and each and every donation will only encourage me to get out on those cold, dark, wet winter runs!

Disability Challengers are a South-East based charity who are passionate about providing play and leisure opportunities to all disabled young people, to enable them to have fun, make friends and try new activities while also providing vital respite for families! They have been one of the most important parts of my son’s upbringing, and I beg you all to help enable them to keep doing this for current and future generations.

About the charity

All children need to play, but for disabled children it is essential to help them reach their full potential. Challengers provides numerous play schemes for disabled children from across the South East. However, there are hundreds of children missing out every day and your gift can help them play.
