Story
I had my Kidney transplant in August 2013. Once healthy, one of my goals was to get fit enough to be able to enter the British Transplant games. This would solve two things, get me back into sport and hopefully show people how organ donation can change lives.
I competed in the games one year after my transplant and won a Gold and two Bronze medals in 100m, 200m and Long Jump respectively. I am extremely proud and immensely grateful for this second chance at something I love doing.
As most of you know I was a keen sportsman, mainly involved in athletics and Rugby at a high level in both. I was lucky to be able to play Rugby into my 30's before calling it a day due to my health. Transplant sport have provided another opportunity to take part in sport again, which to me is fantastic.
This will be my first World Transplant Games. To be able to compete at this level is unbelievable. Unfortunately there is no funding available for the GB&NI team. Therefore, we need to do fund-raising via Transplant Sport to even compete in the games. I hope I can repay any donations in some way by winning a medal and raising the awareness of how important Organ donation can be.
I am raising funds to cover my expenses associated with attending the World Transplant Games in Argentina. Any surplus funds will go towards the Transplant Sport UK Management Team (including physios and coaches) who give up their time to support the team.
