Story
As a lot if you know I lost a very close friend of mine in 2006 called Damien Jackson who served in 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, every year is hard without him and this year is his 10 year memory so i am going to challenge myself and put myself through one of the many tests he would have had to do to gain his place in the elite regiment of the British Army.
On the 4th September I am going to run the Paras'10 race at Catterick Garrison to raise money for the Support Our Paras charity, the run is a 10 mile TAB which stands for Tactical Advance to Battle. The Parachute Regiment challenges you to attempt the 10 Mile 'P' Company Cross Country Route ( same one used for Paratrooper selection) , carrying a Bergen weighing 35lb (excluding food and water) and wearing long trousers with 'military style' boots, the route has water crossings and very undulating terrain.
The charity supports the welfare of serving soldiers and families and those affected by recent operations and through the Maintenance of its regimental efficiency, ethos, spirit and heritage.
The support includes
•Mobility equipment and disability conversion of vechiles
•Funding remedial courses to assist those recovering from wounds
•Memorials to those who have served
•funding sporting equipment for the wounded and regimental teams
•Assisting with travel and other costs on compassionate ground
