Let me be perfectly honest. I'm doing this for me. When lockdown arrived I was in a place where I could get fitter and lighter, or I could pig out and lump even more weight on to my already lardy form. I chose the former with half an eye on retirement, and wanting to be well enough to enjoy it when it comes. That's worked - I feel years younger now than I did 18 months ago.

Then came the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Whatever the rights and wrongs of that or any other war-torn or political situation, it shone a spotlight for me on how children always suffer, and how they can't possibly deserve it. So despite the selfish motivation for my run, if it can help children like that too then I'm very happy for it to do so.
