Story
"Your ego's writing cheques your body can't cash" probably sums this up... Last year I made a deal with Geoff Thomas that he would ride the Tour de France 2022 if A, I rode it and B, I raised £100k for the amazing charity, Cure Leukaemia. So here I am, making good on that promise.
For those that don't know 'Le Tour', it's the most iconic cycle race in the world, taking in a distance of 3,328 Km (2,067 miles) and 48,500 metres of climbing (that's 5.5 times the heigh of Everest) over three (long, arduous and painful) weeks!
I'm currently training around 15 hours per week and plan to increase this to more than 20 hours as we get closer (and I get stronger). By then I should have covered more than 6,000 km in training rides! Here's my Strava account for you to check in on my progress https://www.strava.com/athletes/65925505
This may all sound like fun, but there's an incredible cause at the heart of all of it: Cure Leukaemia. This amazing charity punches far above its weight in what it raises to the positive impact it has, saving thousands of lives and working tirelessly to hep cure such a horrible disease. The Tour '22 team are going to raise more than a million pounds for the charity and every penny is going to be spent directly on their Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP), which opens and runs clinical trials for pioneering treatments nationwide which will make a huge difference to so many people in vital need.
I'm hoping that this is all adding up to you wanting to give generously, which I know is a big ask when we're in a post-pandemic world. However, the bang for buck that the amazing CL team get means that your kind donations will go further than it would in many other places.
I'm sure I can speak on behalf of everyone at the charity and on the trials when I say thank you for the difference you're making to people, friends and families across the country.
