Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am competing in the annual Smugglers Trod Challenge. This is 25 Mile endurance challenge across the tough terrain and hills of the North Yorkshire Moors. As a former Army Reservist soldier and now Captain in the CCF i will be completing the challenge in full kit carrying around 13kg (28lbs) in weight.

I'm hoping to raise money for the Orlando Rodgers Foundation.  The Foundation was established in honour of the life of  Orlando Rogers. It aims to encourage, inspire and support people, young and not so young, to achieve their full potential.

At age 18 Orlando took a commission in the Royal Marines and served in Northern Ireland as a Lieutenant and then as a Captain in Afghanistan. During his time in the Royal Marines he rowed across the Atlantic in a 2 man ocean rowing boat called “GoCommando” (‘going commando’ to avoid chaffing). He achieved all this and so much more before the age of 26 when he was tragically killed in a plane crash.

I, like many others first saw Orlando in the ITV program Commando: On the front line which followed a group of RM recruits through their training. Orlando was their Troop Commander. His drive, enthusiasm, sense of humour and his willingness to push the limits of human endurance was an inspiration to me. He was a guy who loved life and the challenges it offered him. The money i raise will go towards supporting young people to push themselves and achieve their full potential.
