Story
My eldest son, William (8 years old) asked me when Russia was going to stop attacking Ukraine. I told him I don’t know, but hopefully soon, so he said he wished he could do something to help and get some money for the Ukrainian people as they’re losing everything.
After toying with the idea of selling juice in front of the house (I told him it was too cold and most people won’t be in the market for a juice in winter), he decided he’d like to do a sponsored run. And that’s what we’re going for. He’s decided to run 1 mile, per day for the month of February, so just over a marathon distance.
I told him there would be times he’ll not want to do it and give up, his reply was “I won’t give up, Ukraine aren’t giving up, so I won’t”. I’m pretty sure this was the proudest moment I’ve had as a dad. For him to want to give his time and efforts, to help others is fantastic.
There are two reasons I’m supporting him through this -
1 - it’s a good cause, and decent thing to do.
2- I want William to see that if he puts his mind and efforts into something he can make a difference to others. (It’s also a better way to spend some of his evenings, other than being on Minecraft)
Any donations, big or small, would be fantastic and greatly appreciated by William.
