In March 1979 at age 15 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes or as it was known then Juvenile Diabetes. I was very ill at the time as my condition, although easy to diagnose, had NOT been spotted by doctors! It took me some time to recover and come to terms with my new condition and how to live with it but eventually I faced up to having to be responsible for managing my diabetes every single day for the rest of my life through injections, diet, exercise and constant monitoring of my sugar levels.
43 years on and with your generous help I wanted to raise funds for the Type 1 Diabetes charity JDRF who do so much work by driving research into preventing, treating and hopefully soon curing this disease.
So please could you sponsor me to run a sub 4 hour time at the 2022 London Marathon.
I have been fortunate to have lived so far for 43 years with diabetes and been able to enjoy a full and active life.
Type 1 diabetes is currently incurable (just over 100 years ago it was a terminal illness) and the vast majority of people who contract the disease are children.
JDRF, formally known as The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leader in research leading to a cure for type 1 diabetes in the world. It sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable fund raiser and advocate of diabetes science worldwide.
